Antigua and Barbuda is a Caribbean country. It consists of a number of islands of which two (Antigua and Barbuda) are inhabited. The country´s surface is small and there live only 103,300 people on the islands. The country's only major city is the capital Saint John's, where one-third of the population lives.

All countries have the opportunity to send five competitors to the event. To be a part of the team for the worlds is the most prestigious assignment for a optimist sailors and something everyone strive for.
The individual regatta, is decided by 12 races over 6 days. The other part is a Team Race Championship. In Team Race you race 4 vs 4 where the team with the lowest points will win. This regatta will be sailed over two days in between the individual regatta. This is a very different way of sailing and something that the sailors really appreciate where team work, tactical skill and boat handling is the most important skills.
The worlds is not just about the competition, there is a lot of social events during the event. Sailors from all parts of the world will meet and exchange knowledge and build contact for the future.
